This program provides a comprehensive method to design torsion spring using round or rectangular wires. User can input all possible design parameters for the program to figure out optimum spring configuration.
This computer program will start execution from the minimum wire diameter (or wire width and depth, if it is a rectangular wire) to the maximum wire diameter defined by the user. Then the wire and its corresponding UTS will be used to determine if the spring meets the requirement. The following design process is recommended:
Define the leg angles and the torque requirements at installed and fully loaded positions: The spring dimensions are confined by the environment. Dimensions of spring loaded body length, outer diameter and inner diameter at fully loaded conditions will be used to select suitable springs.
The leg angles at installed and fully loaded position and their corresponding torques defines the spring rate.
In the beginning of a design, it is recommended to loosen the requirements first. These may include spring body length, outer diameter, or permissible stress to UTS ratio. With loosen requirements, many spring configuration may be found. Then tighten the requirement gradually to achieve the best spring configuration.
